2019 Recipe Book Download Form

About the recipes:

PA NEN's recipe books are designed for audiences with low resources. They're popular in food banks, food pantries, health clinics, County Assistance Offices, WIC offices, and Community Action Agencies. They have been used in the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – Education (SNAP-Ed), Farmers Market Nutrition Education, and many other programs.

By tracking foods flowing in and out of food banks, seeing what spices and ingredients are commonly found in their participants homes, working with our partners to recipe test and evaluate, and making sure each recipe is registered-dietitian-approved – we truly create a material that contains healthy, simple, timely, everyday foods. We believe that even on a budget, you can have value on your plate without compromise.

Each recipe features:

  • Food safety and preparation tips
  • MyPlate messaging and food groups - vegetables and fruits, whole grains, proteins or legumes, and dairy products that are sure to fit into the meal plans of low-income families
  • Recipes that went through nutrition analysis and adhere to the Pennsylvania Nutrition Education Network's recipe guidelines
  • Easy-to-follow instructions that simplify food prep for new cooks
  • Low-cost ingredients  and spices that are and readily available
  • Basic cooking equipment and appliances

You can use them to:

  • Market certain foods that come into the food banks and pantries in mass quantities
  • Bundle with recipe ingredients for your clients
  • Provide during nutrition educations
  • Set out in your waiting room
  • Give out as prizes
  • Support the health of your food-insecure patients
