State Nutrition Action Committee (SNAC)

What is SNAC?

In Pennsylvania, SNAC or State Nutrition Action Committee, is an FNS initiative that seeks to “Encourage partnerships and collaborative interventions between the nutrition assistance programs and other related groups such as public health programs, healthcare providers, schools, faith-based groups and other community organizations in the consumption of at least five fruits and vegetables a day.”

How is SNAC Implemented in Pennsylvania?

Representatives from WIC, and the Departments of Education, Health, Agriculture, Welfare and Aging, as well as Cooperative Extension enjoined to create nutrition education materials for coordinated use in Agency activities and use by all interested Pennsylvanian nutrition and health educators.

What Specific Nutrition Education Materials Are Available?

Currently, SNAC agencies want to encourage vegetable intake by food stamp eligible Pennsylvanians and have developed a coordinated VEGETABLE campaign with particular emphasis on locally grown produce. Each vegetable features materials to cover nutrition and health benefits, growing, market selection, preparation, and educational activities. These free materials include newsletter inserts, bookmarks, flyers, table tents, recipes, shopping guide, recipes and more. The various materials are provided in easy-to-download PDF files, which can be used alone or combined with other educational materials. Please feel free to cut and paste from any of the materials as well.
